How good was the Dexter season finale last night?
It wasn’t awesome but there were some good bits. I just wished they tied up the loose ends in the final episode a little tidier. Maybe it’s because they had to squeeze everything into a single episode but I reckon a longer episode might have been produced better results.
I was really keen to see what was going to happen to Hannah McKay, portrayed by Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski, now that she was arrested and whether she would spill the beans on Dexter.
I was fairly certain that Hannah’s crackhead friend was the one who poisoned Debra in the penultimate episode so it caught me off guard when Hannah admitted readily to Dexter that she was the one who did it. She reckons Debra was always going to be the thorn in the relationship between Dexter and herself but with Dexter being a lab geek, how did she think she was going to get away with trying to kill his sister!?
The way she escaped from prison was pretty ingenious but how did she cut her cable ties when she was in the hospital? Did her friend slip her a razor or something with the pill as well?
I wonder if she still has feelings for Dexter or if she was just bent on revenge and wants to get rid of him. The pot of flower she left outside his apartment seemed like she wanted to leave him a message. Whether she had malicious intent or not, we wouldn’t know until the next season I guess.
Ahhhhh so many questions but so little answers!
And what about Debra killing Maria LaGuerta? I was pretty sure that Debra wasn’t going to shoot Dexter in the shipping container but didn’t expect her to shoot LaGuerta instead. I had no idea why she did that seeing that if Debra didn’t shoot Dexter, he would have finished off LaGuerta anyway.
But now that there is blood on Debra’s hands, things are certainly going to get complicated next season. Dexter on the other hand, still hasn’t broken out of his “code” of not killing the innocent.
Having James Doakes back was pretty epic though and his trademark “SURPRISE MOTHER F***ER!” was just major lulz.
His performances in this episode pretty much eclipsed everyone else’s. I wasn’t sure if his scenes were taken from the first two season or if they were shot in season seven. Dexter looked pretty dorky in the flash backs so I’m guessing these were old footage.
This wasn’t in the finale last night but another villain-turned-likeable character this season that deserves a mention was Issak Sirko. He was the Ukranian mob boss that was after Dexter’s life for killing his gay lover and Dexter was trying to eliminate Issak for his ruthless methods for trying to get revenge.
As it plays out, they had to bury their feud to work together but alas, Issak was killed off far too early in the show. One of the best scenes with brilliant writing was between Issak and Dexter at the gay bar. The both of them wanted to slit each other’s throats so bad in the show but were civilized enough to sit down, have a drink and have a proper conversation.
Sadly, next season has been confirmed to be Dexter’s final season. Only the writers would know what is going to happen to Dexter, Hannah and Debra next season. Would Dexter die? Get arrested? Or ride into the sunset with Hannah to Argentina? And what about Debra? Would she stay insane enough for the whole season? We’ll see.
I can’t wait.
